Dana Elaine Owens - better known to the public as Queen Latifah, is an American actress, rapper and acrobat. Queen Latifah is an American rapper, actress as well as a singer. Queen Latifah is the daughter of the Newark New Jersey schoolteacher and an Newark New Jersey police officer Lancelot Owens Senior, was raised and born within Newark New Jersey. Latifahs parents split up at the age of Latifah, then ten years aged, was 10 years old. Latifah attended Catholic school in Newark NJ and was educated through the Baptist Church. The stage name Latifah meaning delicate and very kind in Arabic was given to her her cousin at the age of she was just eight years old. Latifah's 5'10" height made her a powerful athlete in high school. The number she sang was home from the show The Wiz in a high school production.
